This is a rare example of IF game that has impressive
looks. Everything just screams: "Look, I'm a leet Inform programmer!". Unfortunately the game is not up to par to its image. It's one of the boringest adventures ever. Chunks of fancily written text, forgotten memories, annoying "talk to X" until you exhaust all options. You have to examine every little detail, which gives you a long description, but still doesn't make things more clear. There is no direction, no story flow, you just go around and nothing interesting happens. I tried to switch to walkthrough, but at some place I got stuck. I was bored enough at this point and quitted the game (to prevent the danger of falling asleep (although it was only 15:00 at the time). What I saw in walkthrough made no sense at all. What I saw in the game made no sense as well (some weird stuff with humans switching genders, huh?). I have the feeling that this author can produce a great IF game at some point at the future: he can write, he can program and A New Life proves that. But games are mostly about gameplay, and in this game there is very little of it.
